Theme: ‘Interlacing Health: Weaving the Future of Pharmacy’
The 33rd Singapore Pharmacy Congress (SPC) was a resounding success, bringing together close to 1200 attendees (almost 50% increment compared to 2023 and participants from North American continent, European continent and even Australian continent) at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel on 5 October to 6 October 2023.
The congress featured four thematic tracks round person-centered, value-based care, with emphasis on harnessing digitalisation, automation, and Artificial Intelligence to cocreate innovative healthcare solutions. SPC provided participants with the opportunity to explore interdisciplinary collaborations with healthcare professionals and industry leaders.
The congress received 94 abstract submissions, of which 82 were accepted, including 8 from overseas pharmacists. We were also pleased to feature oral presentations from Singapore and Hong Kong. In addition, 2 overseas participants from Australia and India competed in the poster category. These contributions highlight the congress’s role as a platform for research exchange and collaboration among pharmacists in Singapore and beyond, further reinforcing its growing international reach and impact.
Key opinion leaders were invited and Professor Tracey Thornley, Professor of Health Policy, University of Nottingham was the keynote speaker. Professor Dean Ho, Provost’s Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the College of Design and Engineering from National University of Singapore laid the ground for discussions on AI and therapeutics and drug development.
The congress ended with a plenary lecture by Professor Nick Watts, Centre for Sustainable Medicine, National University of Singapore who reminded us on the importance of sustainable healthcare. The congress also attracted
international speakers from the International Pharmaceutical Federation, Indian Pharmaceutical Association, DFI retail group Hong Kong, Mahidol University, Thailand, UCSI University, Malaysia and regional pharmacy leaders from the Philippine Pharmacists Association, The Pharmacy Council of Thailand and Ministry of Health of Republic of Indonesia.
