Synopsis:

Artificial intelligence (AI) offers new opportunities to strengthen antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), but its practical application in clinical workflows remains challenging. This session will provide a clinician-focused overview of how AI can be used to improve antibiotic decision-making, and overcome key stewardship challenges such as manpower constraints and diagnostic uncertainty. Findings from clinical studies and implementation experience will be shared, alongside key lessons learnt. Participants will also gain practical insights into when AI should not be used, and how clinicians can safely evaluate and integrate AI tools into stewardship practice.

Speakers:

Ms Sarah Tang Si Lin is a Specialist Pharmacist and AI Lead in the Division of Pharmacy at Singapore General Hospital. She specialises in infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship, with a focus on developing practical, scalable digital health solutions that improve patient care and optimise antibiotic use. She leads multidisciplinary collaborations across clinicians, scientists, engineers, and industry partners to translate clinical needs into impactful innovations. Her work includes AI2D, an AI-enabled clinical decision support system that enhances precision in antibiotic prescribing, as well as ABxSG, a widely adopted antibiotic stewardship mobile application. Ms Tang has secured over $3 million in competitive grant funding and has received national recognition for her contributions to healthcare innovation, including the National Healthcare Innovation and Productivity Medal.
