This course aims to equip the learners with skills and knowledge that is important for a Pharmacy Technician in their day to day work in managing the medication. This includes Drug Distribution and Inventory Management, non-sterile compounding and repackaging, as well as dispensing medication accurately according to the prescription and recommending suitable product for patient for self-care. The course also provides the learners with the attributes to be professional and to comply with the medication safety requirement in an organisation.

This course prepares the learners with the skills that are required to function as a pharmacy technician at an entry-level.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

The entry requirements are listed below:

Minimum educational qualification for this course is either GCE “N” or “O” level with 3 passes in English, Mathematics and one other subject. We do look into other qualifications based on a case-to-case basis. We may also require the applicant to come to the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore office for a screening / competency test prior to course registration if he/she does not meet the minimum educational qualification.

Relevant working experience is required:
Participant must have a minimum of 6 months working experience as a pharmacy assistant, clinic assistant or pharmacy technician, involved in the processing and packing of prescriptions and
Be a full-time employee working in a pharmacy or a medical clinic at the point of course registration, and remain so throughout the entire course duration.

Course Schedule

PSS plans for 2 course runs once to commence in May and the other in October of any given year.

The course is 1 year long, part-time course, with fixed sequence 8 modules, conducted on 2-3 weekday nights , from 6pm – 10.30pm latest.

Course Fees

Full Course fees payable for foreigners: $5905
For Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents: $2952.50, remainder paid by Skillsfuture Singapore Grant.
For Singapore Citizens above 40 y.o: $1771.50, remainder paid by Skillsfuture Singapore Grant.

Where Skillsfuture Credits are available, you may use them to offset the out of pocket fees

Course fee payments to be made after application approval within a 2 week timeframe.

Assessment Information

Candidates will be assessed via a combination of the following methods:

  • Written Assignments and Assessments
  • Practical Performances
  • Oral Questioning

Assessments may occur during the modules or at their conclusion. Candidates will receive a status of Competent (C) or Not Yet Competent (NYC). Details will be provided at least 1 week prior to each module.

There is no fee for the initial assessment. However, in the event of an NYC result, reassessment fees apply:

  • $100 for assessments up to 1 hour
  • $200 for assessments exceeding 1 hour (up to 2 hours)

Reassessments are not subsidized and must be paid by the candidate. A maximum of three reassessments is allowed per module. Failure to pass after the third attempt will result in removal from the course, and the candidate will be liable for any course fees incurred up to that point. PSS reserves the right to recover these fees.
